Potrivit specialistilor, carentele de minerale, cum sunt cromul, magneziu si zincul favorizeaza absorbtia insulinei in organism. Astfel, o lipsa acuta de crom poate declansa subit pofta de ceva dulce. Cromul poate fi luat din sparanghel, drojdie de bere, cereale integrale. Pentru a suplini lipsa de magneziu din sange se poate consuma spanac, fasole, migdale, alune si cereale integrale. Fructele de mare, iaurtul, nautul si ovazul pot suplini lipsa de zinc din organism.
